YouTube Upload Error: 'Insufficient Permissions'
The Problem
You are encountering an error message when attempting to post to YouTube that reads "insufficient permissions" or "Request had insufficient authentication scopes."
Why This Occurs
YouTube requires specific permissions for video uploads. If your YouTube account was connected before video upload capabilities were introduced, or if permissions were modified on YouTube's end, your stored access token will lack the necessary upload permissions.
How to Fix It
You must disconnect and then reconnect your YouTube account to grant the appropriate permissions:
-
Go to this page while signed into your google account that is connected to your problematic youtube account and revoke access from AdaptlyPost
-
Go to the accounts section in AdaptlyPost, Find your YouTube account → Look for the YouTube account that's failing
-
Disconnect the account → Click the disconnect/remove button for that account (Note: this will remove this account from any scheduled posts using it)
-
Reconnect YouTube → Click "Add Account" and select YouTube Channel
-
Grant all permissions → When YouTube asks for permissions, make sure to approve all of them, especially:
-
Upload videos to YouTube
-
Manage your YouTube videos
-
View your YouTube account
Key Points to Note
-
You WILL lose any scheduled posts when fully disconnecting and then reconnecting
-
This process takes less than 2 minutes
-
Make sure you're logged into the correct YouTube/Google account before reconnecting
Still Experiencing Problems?
If issues persist after reconnecting, please get in touch with support and provide:
-
The exact error message you are seeing
-
Which YouTube channel you are trying to post to
-
When you last posted to YouTube successfully
This is a one-time fix -- after reconnecting with the correct permissions, your posts should function normally from that point forward.
