TL;DR, Quick Answer
8 min readAdaptlyPost publishes to self-hosted WordPress sites (5.6 or newer, over HTTPS) from the same composer, API and MCP server it uses for 13 social networks. Connect a site by approving AdaptlyPost on its own admin page or by pasting an application password. Each post becomes a published blog post: the first line is the title unless you set one, the first image is the featured image, and you can set an excerpt, categories and tags. Limits are 100,000 characters, 20 media items, 20 MB per image and 500 MB per video. WordPress posts get no analytics and no first comment.
The quickest way to schedule WordPress posts next to your social media is to treat the blog as one more account in the post you are already writing. AdaptlyPost added WordPress as its 14th platform on October 31, 2026, so one post can now land on your blog as a full article and on LinkedIn, X, Facebook or Instagram as a shorter version, at the time you pick.
This guide covers what you need on the WordPress side, the two ways to connect a site, what a WordPress post looks like after it publishes, and how to do the same thing through the REST API or an AI agent. We build AdaptlyPost, so the examples use it.
The short version: connect your site on the Connectors page, pick it in the composer next to your social accounts, set a title, excerpt, categories and tags in the WordPress section, and schedule. Through the API, send wordpressConnectionIds and wordpressConfigs with POST /social-posts.
Can you schedule WordPress posts and social posts from one tool?
Yes. AdaptlyPost treats a self-hosted WordPress site like any connected account, so the same post can go to the site and to your social networks at one scheduled time. WordPress has its own scheduler, but it only publishes to WordPress. The announcement on LinkedIn and X still has to be scheduled somewhere else, and the two drift apart when the date moves.
Putting both in one post keeps them tied together. Move the post on the calendar and the blog article and the social posts move with it. Change the text for one platform and the rest keep the shared version. The WordPress post scheduler page lists what the integration covers.
What do you need before you connect a WordPress site?
You need a self-hosted WordPress site on version 5.6 or newer, served over HTTPS, and a WordPress user that can edit posts, publish posts and upload files. In the default WordPress roles, that is an Author, Editor or Administrator. A Contributor account on the WordPress side can write drafts but cannot publish, so the connection is refused.
Version 5.6 matters because that release added application passwords, which is how AdaptlyPost signs in. They are on by default, but some security plugins and hosts switch them off. If the connection says application passwords are unavailable, turn them back on in the plugin or ask your host.
How do you connect WordPress to AdaptlyPost?
There are two ways, and both end with an application password that only AdaptlyPost uses. Neither asks for your WordPress login password.
Approve AdaptlyPost on your own site. On the Connectors page, pick WordPress, enter the site address (with the folder, if WordPress lives at example.com/blog) and click Continue to WordPress. Your site's admin opens on the page that asks whether to give AdaptlyPost access. Approve it, and WordPress creates the application password and sends you back.
Paste an application password. In WordPress, open Users, then Profile, scroll to Application Passwords, enter a name like AdaptlyPost and click Add New Application Password. Copy the password WordPress shows once, then paste it into AdaptlyPost with your WordPress username. This route helps when a login plugin blocks the approval page, or when someone else runs the admin and sends you the password.
One problem catches some hosts. AdaptlyPost sends the login in the Authorization header, and some Apache setups strip that header before WordPress reads it. WordPress then acts as if nobody logged in. The fix is one line in .htaccess or a request to your host, and the WordPress setup article has the exact line and the other checks.

How do you schedule a WordPress post in the composer?
Pick the WordPress site in the account list, write the post, fill in the WordPress section and choose a time. The steps:
- Open the composer and select your WordPress site along with any social accounts.
- Write the text. For WordPress this is the body of the article: blank lines start new paragraphs and bare links become clickable. It can run to 100,000 characters.
- Add images or a video. The first image becomes the featured image, and the other images follow the text. A post can carry one video, placed after the text.
- Open the WordPress section. Set a Post title (up to 300 characters) or leave it empty to use the first line of the text. Add an Excerpt for post lists and feeds, pick Categories from your site, and type Tags.
- Shorten the text for the social platforms if you want, using the per-platform text.
- Pick a date and time and schedule.
At that time the article is published on your site, not saved as a draft there. Alt text you set on images is sent to WordPress with each image, which helps both screen readers and image search.

What does one piece of content become on each platform?
Each platform takes the shared text and media and fits it to its own format, so the blog gets the long version and the networks get what they can show. The table compares the WordPress article with the most common social destinations.
| Platform | What the post becomes | Text limit | Media |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | Published blog post with title, excerpt, categories, tags | 100,000 characters | Up to 20 items; images up to 20 MB, or one video up to 500 MB |
| Feed post or document | 3,000 characters | Up to 20 images, or one video | |
| X | Post, or a thread | 280 characters (more on X Premium) | Up to 4 images, or one video |
| Page feed post, Reel or Story | Long posts allowed | Images or one video | |
| Feed post, Reel or Story | 2,200 characters | Up to 10 items in a carousel |
A practical split is to write the article as the main text, then set a two-line teaser with the link for X, Bluesky and Threads, and a longer summary for LinkedIn. The cross-posting guide covers how far to adapt each version.
How do you schedule WordPress posts through the API?
Send POST /social-posts with the site's account id in wordpressConnectionIds and the article settings in wordpressConfigs. The account id comes from GET /social-accounts, which lists WordPress sites with the platform WORDPRESS. Category ids come from GET /social-accounts/{id}/wordpress-categories, which returns each category's id, name and parentId.
curl -X POST https://post.adaptlypost.com/post/api/v1/social-posts \
-H "Authorization: Bearer adaptly_YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"contentType": "IMAGE",
"timezone": "Europe/Berlin",
"scheduledAt": "2026-11-10T08:00:00Z",
"text": "Release notes for November\n\nThis month we shipped three changes...",
"mediaUrls": ["https://cdn.example.com/november-cover.png"],
"mediaAltTexts": ["Screenshot of the new dashboard"],
"accountIds": ["WORDPRESS_ACCOUNT_ID", "LINKEDIN_ACCOUNT_ID"],
"wordpressConfigs": [{
"connectionId": "WORDPRESS_ACCOUNT_ID",
"title": "Release notes for November",
"excerpt": "Three changes that shipped this month.",
"categoryIds": [12],
"tags": ["release notes", "product"]
}],
"platformTexts": [{
"platform": "LINKEDIN",
"text": "Our November release notes are up. Three changes, one link."
}]
}'Leave out title and the first line of the text becomes the title, cut to 100 characters. Leave out categoryIds and WordPress files the post under the site's default category. A tag the site doesn't have yet is created when the WordPress user may manage tags, and skipped otherwise. The response and GET /social-posts/{id} carry wordpressTitle, wordpressExcerpt, wordpressCategoryIds and wordpressTags on the WordPress platform row. The create post reference lists every field, and the same configs work on PATCH and in bulk scheduling.
To check a post before creating it, send the same body to POST /social-posts/validate. It reports every problem, such as a text over 100,000 characters or a 25 MB image, without creating anything.
Can an AI agent publish to your WordPress blog?
Yes. The AdaptlyPost MCP server exposes the same fields to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other MCP client, so an agent can draft an article and schedule it to WordPress and your social accounts in one call. The flow an agent follows:
list_accountsto find the WordPress site and the social accounts.list_wordpress_categoriesto turn category names like "News" into ids.create_postwithwordpressConnectionIds,wordpressConfigsand the social account ids, orvalidate_postfirst to see problems without creating anything.
The agent acts under the role of the member who created the key or signed in. A Contributor key can only save drafts, so an agent working under it prepares the article and its social posts for an Editor to schedule. Setup takes about five minutes and is the same for every platform, covered in how to post to social media with AI agents. The best social media MCP servers compares the options if you are choosing one.
What are the limits of WordPress posting?
A WordPress post takes up to 100,000 characters of text and 20 media items. Images can be JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF up to 20 MB each, and a video can be one MP4 or MOV file up to 500 MB.
| Setting | Limit |
|---|---|
| Text | 100,000 characters |
| Media per post | 20 items |
| Image size | 20 MB each |
| Video | One file, up to 500 MB |
| Title | 300 characters |
| Excerpt | 1,000 characters |
| Categories | 50 per post |
| Tags | 50 per post, 100 characters each |
Each connected site counts as one account on your plan, and a workspace can connect several sites.
What doesn't WordPress posting do?
WordPress posts get no analytics, no first comment and no replies in AdaptlyPost, and WordPress comments don't show in the inbox. Your site's own statistics plugin or Google Analytics still measures the article. The integration publishes standard blog posts, so WordPress pages and custom post types are outside it.
If WordPress later refuses the application password, because someone revoked it or the user lost the Author role, the post fails with a message that says so and the site is marked for reconnect on the Connectors page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which WordPress sites can AdaptlyPost publish to?
AdaptlyPost publishes to self-hosted WordPress sites running version 5.6 or newer over HTTPS. It signs in with WordPress application passwords, so a site where a plugin or the host blocks them cannot connect until they are allowed again.
Does AdaptlyPost publish to WordPress as a draft or a live post?
The post goes live on your site at the scheduled time. It is not left as a draft for you to publish from wp-admin.
Which WordPress role does the connected user need?
The user needs to edit posts, publish posts and upload files. In the default WordPress roles that is an Author, Editor or Administrator. A Contributor or Subscriber account is refused when you connect.
What becomes the title if I don't set one?
The first line of the text becomes the title, cut to 100 characters. Set your own in the WordPress section of the composer, or with title in wordpressConfigs, up to 300 characters.

Which image becomes the featured image?
The first image of the post becomes the featured image. The other images follow the text of the article, and alt text is sent to WordPress with each image.
Can I pick WordPress categories and tags when I schedule?
Yes. The composer lists your site's categories, and you can type up to 50 tags. A tag the site doesn't have yet is created when your WordPress role allows it, and skipped otherwise. Without categories, the post goes to the site's default category.
What do I do when WordPress says nobody logged in?
Your host is probably stripping the Authorization header. Add the line from the WordPress setup article to .htaccess, or ask your host to pass the header through to WordPress, then connect again.
Can I post the same article to several WordPress sites?
Yes. Connect each site, then select all of them in the composer or list each id in wordpressConnectionIds. Each site gets its own entry in wordpressConfigs, so titles and categories can differ.
Does AdaptlyPost show analytics for WordPress posts?
No. WordPress sites have no analytics in AdaptlyPost, and the analytics endpoints ignore them. Use your site's own statistics or Google Analytics for article traffic.
Can I schedule many WordPress posts at once?
Yes. The bulk text, image and video pages accept WordPress sites like any other account, and POST /social-posts/bulk takes up to 100 posts per request, each with its own wordpressConfigs. The bulk scheduling feature covers the file formats.
