Reading time uses 200 words per minute, the average adult reading speed. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, standard for presentations.

What counts as a word?

Any sequence of non-whitespace characters separated by spaces. Hyphenated words count as one word. Numbers and abbreviations count as words.

Text segments ending with a period, exclamation mark, or question mark. Multiple punctuation (e.g., '...') counts as one sentence boundary.
