TL;DR, Quick Answer

A video posted in LinkedIn's own composer can run from 3 seconds (2 seconds from the mobile app) to 15 minutes, with a file between 75 KB and 5 GB. Microsoft Learn's Videos API page lists a wider range of 3 seconds to 30 minutes for person and organization uploads, next to a 75 KB to 500 MB file size copied from the ad specs, while the same page caps fileSizeBytes at 5 GB. Video ads run 3 seconds to 30 minutes, and in-stream ads stop at 90 seconds.

What is the maximum LinkedIn video length?

The maximum LinkedIn video length for a post uploaded in LinkedIn itself is 15 minutes, and LinkedIn's help centre sets the minimum at 3 seconds on desktop and 2 seconds in the mobile app. The figures sit in the "Video File Requirements" list of LinkedIn's Video sharing troubleshooting article:

Maximum video duration: 15 minutes Minimum video duration: 3 seconds when uploading from desktop and 2 seconds when uploading from the LinkedIn mobile app.

The mobile app has no shorter maximum. Older guides say the app stops at 10 minutes, but the current article names one ceiling for every device and splits only the minimum. If your clip runs 15 minutes or less and 3 seconds or more, it passes on desktop, iOS and Android alike.

Length is one of eight requirements in that list, so check the full set before you export.

What are all of LinkedIn's video file requirements?

LinkedIn publishes one set of requirements for feed video, and every value below is quoted from the Video sharing troubleshooting article.

RequirementLinkedIn's stated value
Maximum duration15 minutes
Minimum duration3 seconds on desktop, 2 seconds in the mobile app
Maximum file size5 GB
Minimum file size75 KB
Resolution range256x144 to 4096x2304
Aspect ratio1:2.4 to 2.4:1
Frame rates10fps to 60 fps
Bit rates192 Kbps to 30 Mbps

The same article lists the accepted containers and codecs: MP4, MOV, AVI, WEBM, MKV, WMV, VC1, MPEG (including MPEG2 and MPEG1VIDEO), DVVIDEO, QTRLE and TSCC2, each marked for desktop, iOS and Android. LinkedIn adds a warning about ProRes: "you may be able to upload it, but it will not be able to process." So a ProRes master that uploads cleanly still fails at processing, and the fix is to re-export as MP4 before you post.

Two mobile notes come with the limits. On iOS, "you'll need to remain in the LinkedIn mobile app" while a video uploads, or the upload stalls. And "Videos stored on iCloud aren't supported for upload on the LinkedIn mobile app," so move the file to local storage first.

Do LinkedIn Pages have a different video length?

No. LinkedIn's help centre publishes no separate duration for Page posts, and its video requirements article covers sharing "from your computer or mobile device" without splitting members from Pages. A Page admin posting through the composer works inside the same 15 minutes and 5 GB as a member.

The API draws no line between the two either. The Videos API takes an owner that "Can be a person(urn:li:person:123), or organization(urn:li:organization:123) URN," and one specification block applies to both. The only differences are permissions. A company-owned upload needs w_organization_social and "ADMIN or DSC permissions for the company page," while a member upload needs w_member_social and a caller that matches the video owner.

A video editor trims a clip on a laptop timeline, the kind of export step that decides whether a file meets LinkedIn's API duration limit.

How long can a video be through the LinkedIn API?

Microsoft Learn's Videos API page, the reference for uploads to both profiles and Pages, sets video length at "Three seconds to 30 minutes." That is double the 15 minutes the help centre allows in the composer, and the page states it without comment. It sits under a heading called "Video File Size Specifications":

Length: Three seconds to 30 minutes. File size: Between 75kb and 500MB. File format: MP4.

That block is word for word the video ad spec, and the page points readers to "Video Ads Advertising Specifications" right after it. The same page then contradicts its own file size. The initializeUploadRequest.fileSizeBytes field says "Maximum allowed Videos size is 5GB," which matches the help centre, not the 500 MB above it.

Microsoft Learn does not say which number wins for an organic post, and it does not document a length-specific error. The failure you will see is a video status of PROCESSING_FAILED, with a processingFailureReason that LinkedIn describes only in general terms such as "file size too large, unsupported file format." Until LinkedIn reconciles the page, the safe file for any path is an MP4 of 15 minutes or less and 500 MB or less, because that file passes every limit LinkedIn publishes.

The upload mechanics are the same for a 10 second clip and a 30 minute one:

  1. Call POST /rest/videos?action=initializeUpload with the owner and the exact fileSizeBytes.
  2. Split the file into 4 MB parts. The response lists byte ranges starting "0 - 4194303, the next one with 4194304 - 8388607 and so on," with one upload URL per part.
  3. PUT each part to its URL and keep the ETag from every response.
  4. Call finalizeUpload with the upload token and the ETags in part order.
  5. Reference the returned urn:li:video:{id} as content.media.id on POST /rest/posts.

The image flow is the same shape with a single PUT, which our walkthrough of how initializeUpload turns a file into an image URN covers step by step. After step 5, read the post back. A video post that returns PUBLISH_REQUESTED is still processing, as explained in what LinkedIn lifecycleState accepts on create, and a GET on the video URN returns duration in milliseconds, which confirms the length LinkedIn stored.

A marketing team reviews an ad campaign on screen, the kind of planning session where video length and budget for a LinkedIn ad get decided.

How long can a LinkedIn video ad be?

A LinkedIn video ad can run from three seconds to 30 minutes, and in-stream video ads stop at 90 seconds. Ads are a separate product with separate rules, and the Video ads advertising specifications article in LinkedIn's Marketing Solutions help centre sets them:

Ad specLinkedIn's stated value
LengthThree seconds to 30 minutes
In-stream video adsUp to 90 seconds
File sizeBetween 75 KB and 500 MB
File formatMP4
Frame rateLess than 30 FPS
Uploads in Campaign Manager25 videos within 24 hours, desktop only

LinkedIn recommends "videos that are 15-30 seconds long, so they can qualify for all possible placements across the LinkedIn Feed and the Audience Network." It also loops short ads: "Videos under 30 seconds will loop until there are at least 30 seconds of playback."

The part that reaches organic posts is sponsorship. LinkedIn says to check these specs "including when sponsoring an existing organic video post as an ad," and a boosted post becomes an ad too, since "Boosting a post will turn the post into an ad." A 2 GB organic video at 60 fps is a valid post. It fails the 500 MB and under-30 FPS ad rules the moment you try to promote it. If you plan to put budget behind a video, export it to the ad spec from the start.

Three paths, three limits
Composer post15 minutes, 5 GB, 75 KB minimum
API upload3 seconds to 30 minutes, 500 MB in the spec block, 5 GB in the fileSizeBytes field
Sponsored ad3 seconds to 30 minutes, 500 MB cap, in-stream ads stop at 90 seconds
The same clip meets a different rule depending on whether it goes through the composer, the API, or a boosted ad.

How does a scheduler handle LinkedIn video limits?

A scheduler works inside LinkedIn's limits and cannot raise them, so the useful check is the one made when the post is queued, not when it fires. A 16 minute file that fails at 09:00 on a Tuesday is a missed slot, and the list of other things that break a LinkedIn queue is in why LinkedIn scheduled posts stop working.

AdaptlyPost publishes to LinkedIn personal profiles and company pages from one calendar, and it handles text, image, video and document carousel posts. Each post can carry a different publishing time per platform, so the same clip can go to LinkedIn at one hour and to other networks at another. The LinkedIn post scheduler page shows the setup, and our guide on how to schedule LinkedIn posts compares the native scheduler with third-party tools. If the same video is also headed to TikTok, check how long a TikTok video can be before you cut one master for both.

Frequently asked questions

Can you post a 20 minute video on LinkedIn?

Not through LinkedIn's own composer, which caps video at 15 minutes on desktop and mobile. Microsoft Learn's Videos API page lists a range of three seconds to 30 minutes, so a 20 minute MP4 falls inside the API's stated limit. LinkedIn does not reconcile the two figures, so test an API upload before you rely on it.

Is the LinkedIn mobile app limited to 10 minutes?

No. LinkedIn's current video requirements list one maximum, 15 minutes, for every device. Only the minimum differs, at 3 seconds on desktop and 2 seconds in the mobile app.

What is the shortest video LinkedIn accepts?

LinkedIn accepts a 2 second video from the mobile app and a 3 second video from desktop. The Videos API and the video ad specs both start at three seconds, and every path needs a file of at least 75 KB.

What is the LinkedIn video file size limit?

LinkedIn's help centre sets the organic limit at 5 GB, with a 75 KB minimum. Video ads cap files at 500 MB. The Videos API page lists 500 MB in its spec block but says "Maximum allowed Videos size is 5GB" in the fileSizeBytes field.

Do company Pages get longer videos than personal profiles?

No. LinkedIn publishes no separate Page limit, and the Videos API applies one spec to person and organization owners. Pages and profiles differ in permissions, not in length.

How long should a LinkedIn video ad be?

LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds so the ad qualifies for every placement across the LinkedIn Feed and the Audience Network. The hard range is three seconds to 30 minutes, and in-stream video ads stop at 90 seconds.

Why does LinkedIn's API documentation list two different max file sizes for video?

The Videos API page states a 500 MB limit in its file size spec block, then contradicts it in the initializeUploadRequest.fileSizeBytes field, which allows up to 5 GB. LinkedIn does not say which number wins for an organic upload. Until the page is reconciled, keeping a video under 500 MB avoids the question entirely.

Can boosting a LinkedIn video post turn it into an ad with stricter limits?

LinkedIn says boosting a post turns it into an ad, so the video then has to meet the 500 MB and under 30 fps ad rules instead of the composer's 5 GB and 60 fps allowance. A 2 GB video at 60 fps posts fine organically but fails the moment you try to promote it. Export any video you plan to boost to the ad spec from the start.

Does LinkedIn support ProRes video files?

No. LinkedIn's warning says that with ProRes "you may be able to upload it, but it will not be able to process." ProRes is also missing from the article's list of supported file types. Re-export the file as MP4 before you post.

What happens when a scheduled LinkedIn video misses the length limit?

The video fails at post time and the slot is missed, because a scheduler cannot raise LinkedIn's limits. Check the file when you queue the post, not when it fires. An MP4 of 15 minutes or less and 500 MB or less passes every limit LinkedIn publishes.
